Age 5-7* 8-10 10-14 High School +
Middle Infield 10.5" - 11.5" 11" - 12" 11.5" - 12" 11.5" - 12"
Third Base 10.5" - 11.5" 11.5" - 12" 12" - 12.25" 11.75" - 12.25"
Outfield 10.5" - 11.5" 11.75" - 12" 12" - 12.5" 12.5" - 13"

The above recommendations are based on average size players. Adjustments may be needed due to relative size and strength of a player in any age bracket.

In general... Middle infielders (SS & 2B) require smaller gloves to assist in quick transfers from glove to throwing hand. Third base requires a little larger glove to have better control of balls hit sharply towards them and have little need for quick transfers. Outfielders require reach and deeper pockets to "hang on" to balls that are at the end of their reach, or slightly misjudged fly balls. They rarely need a speedy transfer and usually can transfer easily while still moving toward the play.

It is our belief that players under 10 should play multiple positions and do not require a specialized mitt for catching or playing first base. Many times, the mitt is too heavy and cumbersome to be effective for a young ball player.

Catchers typically use a mitt 33" - 34". The size of the mitt is only determined by the preference of the player. Younger players may be more comfortable with a smaller mitt until they get used to the size and feel.

First base will typically use a 12.5" - 13" mitt. Again, the size is a player preference and not adjusted by age. Prior to a first base mitt, many outfield gloves will suffice. Especially for younger players.

* Ages 5-7 will likely play many positions while learning the game. A glove that is comfortable and familiar is better than one that is sized for position purposes. We recommend a smaller glove over a larger glove. Large gloves will promote poor fielding mechanics and will make it difficult for a player to adapt to a properly sized glove later.
